CONCUPISCENCE: INCLINATION to SIN

Concupiscence stems from the disobedience of the first sin. It unsettles man’s moral faculties and, without being itself an offense, inclines man to commit sins.*

Concupiscence: Man’s Inclination to Sin begins with the acknowledgement of sin. From murder to lying and everything in between, man justifies his wrong doings with perverted logic.    In the series of relief sculptures titled Expression of Sin, the issue of sin is brought to the forefront  specifically rejecting the notion that sin is acceptable because it is universal and instead representing the disfigurement of humanity due to sin.    Isaiah 53:5 represents the appeasement of divine justice through the self sacrifice of the Son of God which pays the debt for all men guilty of sin.    Pentecost embodies the reconciliation between God and man that has been made manifest to the world after this consummate sacrifice.

  ANCEINT SCHEMA of MODERN MAN

There are certain concepts that transcend the boundaries of culture and time. These concepts reappear continuously throughout the history of mankind.

Ancient Schema of Modern Man attempts to connect modern man with his primal essence by using modern materials to form primitive idols. The pieces created are hieroglyphic sculptures symbolic of social hierarchies appearing in both primitive and modern civilizations.    The crude welding and rudimentary manipulation of the metal are primitive indicators as a more advanced way of thinking begins to emerge linking unrelated found objects into recognizable figures. Here, the bare essence of the simple hieroglyphic is transformed into a three dimensional object maintaining its austere simplicity.

STATEMENT

The visual statement is equally important as the final product & a visually strong product delivers a thunderous statement. Art begins with a concept or statement. This is the backbone of the art piece & motivation for production. The concept may be as simple as the blending of color or as complex as the reinterpretation of a current event. The challenge is keeping the integrity of the concept intact while visually defining it in translation from idea to optical reality. The medium revolves around the concept while interesting visual elements engage the viewer through curiosity & self reflection. Although an art piece may illustrate a specific concept, it gains new life by the many interpretations of different individuals.
